Brief Notes

Lucifer as
“the Very First
Radical”

A leading 20th-Century
left-wing activist openly
confessed he was
following in the way
of Satan

I wrote Lawlessness, the Left, and the Antichrist out of my concern that a good number of Christians, especially young people, were being influenced by Leftism and so carried away from Christ; today we can see this happening even at some supposedly Christian colleges, where some seem to feel that Leftist views are an expression of the teachings of Jesus. Yet, the point of the book is not to change people’s political views, but to call the believers to stand for the Lord and for His kingdom, rather than for any earthly kingdom.

(You can download the complete book for free from my website, or, if you want a printed copy, purchase it on Amazon.)

To do this, the book looks at the spiritual, historical, and political roots of Leftism to expose its false appearance, in which it claims to be so concerned for the poor, the disadvantaged, the environment, etc. (cf. 2 Cor. 11:14-15), so that the believers may see Leftism for what it truly is: a tool of Satan for tearing down any standard of morality in society, to thus give rise to lawlessness and so prepare the way for his ultimate leader, the Antichrist.

Leftism does not merely seek to right various wrongs in society — as is the case with modern Liberalism — but to establish utopia on earth. This goal, which is an outgrowth of the Enlightenment view that man today is still innocent by nature, is a direct rejection of the Biblical view that man is fallen and so, according to the Bible, true righteousness will only be brought to the earth when the Lord Himself returns to establish His kingdom here. Leftism is, in brief, a rebellion against the Lord and His ways of dealing with mankind, and its utopia a counterfeit of the Lord’s kingdom, and no Christian should ever be involved with that.

One very striking, and important, example of this rebellion is found in the work of Saul Alinsky (1909-1972), a crucial figure among Leftists in 20th century America. Mainstream commentators consistently seek to hide his influence on the American Left, but his methods and his goals have been widely adopted by Leftists today; for one thing, he had a profound influence on the careers of both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, the latter of whom knew him personally.

Alinsky’s last and most influential book was Rules for Radicals (1972). A comment he makes at the very beginning of the book leaves no doubt as to the real nature of the work he was doing, and of what he was calling others into; you can read it for yourself in the brief excerpt from Lawlessness below.

Lucifer as
“the Very First Radical”

The opening chapter of Alinsky’s book, Rules for Radicals, begins with a statement that once again echoes the themes of the French Enlightenment and French Revolution, from which all modern Leftist movements world-wide trace their origins….

More significant than any of this, however, is what appears at the very beginning of the book, just before the “Contents” page. There Mr. Alinsky highlights three brief quotes, the last of which, his own statement, is an open appreciation of Satan (“Lucifer”; cf. Isa. 14:12) and his work of rebellion, for being “the very first radical” and one who “won his own kingdom”:

Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology, and history (and who is to know where mythology leaves off and history begins — or which is which), the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom — Lucifer.

Here a central figure of Leftist activism in America, at the very beginning of his most influential book, openly credits Satan as an inspiration for his evil work in our society today.

This book has had a huge impact in leading many young people into careers of Left-wing activism. Yet those who have been inspired by Mr. Alinsky, or who use his methods to carry out a social revolution, should be very seriously warned by his statement of a simple fact: they are indeed following in the way of Satan.
