Brief Notes
“Written, Not With Ink….” (1)
When we allow the Lord
to write something of Himself
upon us and within us,
it means we belong
fully to Him
Recently I have been very much convicted about the matter of the Lord wanting to write Himself into our being. (The most recent edition of the podcast, although it is very short, covers this same topic: “Written, Not with Ink….”) The Lord told the church in Philadelphia,
He who overcomes, him will I make a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will never go out anymore; and I will write upon him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My new name.
— Revelation 3:20
The fact that these names will be written upon the overcomers means they are those who belong fully to God, to His city, and to Christ. But if that is true then, it should also be true of us now; that is, we should open to the Lord and allow Him to write Himself into our being, so we can become “letters of Christ” to those living in this fallen world today. The Apostle Paul said to the believers in Corinth,
You are our letter, inscribed in our hearts, known and read by all men, since you are being manifested that you are a letter of Christ ministered by us, inscribed not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tablets of stone, but in tablets of flesh, that is, of your hearts.
— 2 Corinthians 3:2-3
And a key part of the New Covenant is to have God’s laws imparted into our minds and “inscribed” upon our hearts (Heb. 8:10).
So, as the believers in Christ we should pray to the Lord from deep within, telling Him,
“Lord, I open myself to You, and give You all the ground in my being, so You can write something more of Yourself into me today! Inscribe Your laws on my heart! I want others, even today, to be able to read something of You, something of Christ, in my being!”
This kind of prayer will revolutionize our entire Christian life.
But at the same time we also need to beware, for the world, especially as this age reaches its closing days, also wants to write something of itself into us and upon us, to claim us for itself. We will consider that in the next Note in this series.
