“Do You Not
Know?”

28 January 2022

So many of us Christians
live as though we really
do not know
this great truth

I so appreciate how Paul asks this question:

Do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?
— Romans 6:3

Why does he ask, “Do you not know?” Simply because, practically speaking, so many of us Christians live our lives as though we truly don’t know we have been baptized into the death of Christ.

We may have some understanding of this great truth, and yet we go on living our own life, rather than remaining in the death of Christ so that we may walk with Him “in newness of life” (v. 4).

“Do you not know?”

When I was first saved this passage, and the matter of being baptized into the death of Christ, was one of the first Bible passages that really made an impression on me, and that was a real blessing. (This was in part through reading A.W. Tozer’s classic pamphlet, “The Old Cross and the New,” which a dear brother gave me.)

Recently, however, the Lord brought me to this passage again. Through Paul’s question He convicted me of my need for a much deeper realization of the fact that, when I believed in the Lord, I was not only saved, but I also died with Christ:

“Do you not know?”

In response, it was so good to just declare the truth of this verse:

“Thank You, Lord, I have been baptized into Your death!”

May we all gain a much deeper realization and experience of the fact that we have been baptized into the death of Christ! Lord, impress us with this truth in such a way that we will no longer live by ourselves, but instead walk “in newness of life!”

“Do you not know?”
