Titus Chu:
Gaining
the“Amen!”
through Christ

For whatever the promises
of God are, in Him is the Yes;
therefore, through Him also
is the Amen! for glory
to God through us.
— 2 Corinthians 1:20 —

The apostle Peter tells us we can become partakers of the divine nature through “the precious, even the greatest, promises” God has granted to us through His own glory and virtue (2 Pet. 1:4). Surely, then, if we desire to be such partakers, we need to know the Scriptures, and the promises of God we find there!

But how, practically, do we partake of the divine nature through God’s promises? The key to this is found in 2 Corinthians 1:20. This verse shows us that God’s promises to us are always fulfilled “in Christ.” (See also the Note, “In Him Is the ‘Yes.’”) And so, as brother Titus Chu shares in the excerpt below, when we come to God “through Christ” to claim His promises, not only will we be able to say the “Amen!” by faith to what He has promised us, but ultimately, He will become more real to us in our experience.

Gaining the “Amen!”
through Christ

The promises in the Bible come in two kinds: conditional and unconditional. The conditional promises are found in much of the Old Testament: if you do a certain thing, then you will live. Unconditional promises are those which the Lord has given to you; that is, what the Lord has promised you. What Paul said [in 2 Corinthians 1:20] is that no matter how many promises are in the Bible, they have all been given to us. All the promises in Him are “yes.”

For instance, here are some promises: “I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20) and “I will not leave you as orphans; I am coming to you” (John 14:18). These are promises, but you have to realize that you will never know these promises unless you realize they are in Christ. If you just hold onto a promise without Christ, then it doesn’t work. The promise itself is in Christ. In Christ there is nothing to fear. In Christ there is no weakness. In Christ there is nothing to be bothered by. In Christ you can be bold. In Christ you can be strong. In Christ you can always be in the Lord’s presence. This is what the apostle Paul meant when he wrote, “In Him they are yes.”…

Notice that here Paul said, “Through Him.” We must learn to go through Christ in every situation. We need to be covered with Him and experience Him. We have to go through Him. Once you go through Him, what do you get? You get the “Amen.”…

You know, the Lord says, “Fear not.” You know it is true, but you cannot say your “Amen.” What do you need to do? You need to experience Christ subjectively. You need to say, “O, Lord Jesus, on this matter, I need Christ….I need You! Oh, Lord, I need You.” When you say “I need You,” then you can say a real “Amen!” “I need You. Amen!” When a real “Amen” comes out from your being, praise the Lord, there is no more fear. Everything becomes okay. This should be our experience when we go through Christ.
