“Not the Smallest Letter, Not the Least Stroke of a Pen”
For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear,
not the smallest letter, not the least stroke
of a pen, will by any means disappear
from the Law until everything is accomplished.
— Matthew 5:18 —

It is indeed a remarkable fact that, in this entire universe, and in these crazy times in which we live, there is only one thing that never changes, and that is the word of God. But, do we truly appreciate just how absolute and unchanging the word of God in the Bible really is?
M.V. Vincent’s comment on the verse above reminds us of how serious a statement the Lord is making here regarding God’s word as it is found in the Old Testament:
The guilt of changing those little hooks which distinguish between certain Hebrew letters is declared to be so great that, if such a thing were done, the world would be destroyed.
— Word Studies in the New Testament, on Matthew 5:18
And in giving the prophecy of His return, the Lord affirms that His words, also, shall endure forever:
“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall never pass away.”
— Matthew 24:35, Mark 13:31
And the apostle Peter, quoting the prophet Isaiah, also assures us that God’s word, unlike any earthly glory, is unfading:
All flesh is as grass,
And all its glory as
The flower of the grass;
The grass withers,
And its flower falls away,
But the word of the Lord
Endures forever.
— 1 Peter 1:24; cf. Isaiah 40:6-8
Thank the Lord that, in the Bible, we have this unchanging word in our hands for us to read, study, and meditate upon today!
