A Very Good
Reminder
The King of England’s
coronation today is a
reminder of the
future enthronement
of the overcomers
in Christ
Then I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given to them.
— Revelation 20:4
With the coronation of King Charles today, I wanted to send out a brief a note again regarding the coming day when the overcomers will sit upon their thrones, as mentioned in the verse above. What a day that will be!
John does not say here, “I saw them sitting upon their thrones,” but that he saw the thrones, which were empty, and then “they sat upon them.” This indicates that when the overcomers do take their thrones it will be an occasion of great dignity and celebration.
As I said in a recent note on this topic, “The Bible doesn’t tell us exactly what will happen then, but surely the heavenly host will be singing praises to the Lord and shouting many ‘Hallelujah’s!’ at that time.” (See “And They Sat Upon the Thrones” • 4, where I covered this more at length.)
There will, no doubt, be great pomp and ceremony at the coronation in England today; it is by far the most elaborate of all the earthly coronation ceremonies. But still, that will be as nothing compared to the glory the overcomers will experience in the day they sit upon their thrones; how blessed we will be, if we are among that number! It is not easy to truly follow the Lord today, but whatever hardship we may experience now will seem as nothing, even less than nothing, then (cf. 2 Cor. 4:16-18).
So, may the coronation of the new King of England be an occasion for all of us, as the believers in Christ, to give ourselves to the Lord anew, so that we may seek Him and serve Him in a fresh way, and with renewed vigor.
And may we indeed be among His overcomers, who will sit upon the thrones in that day!
Stand up, stand up for Jesus!
The strife will not be long;
This day the noise of battle,
The next, the victor’s song.
To him that overcometh
A crown of life shall be;
He with the King of glory
Shall reign eternally.
