When
God’s Kindness
and Love
Appeared

29 December 2022

We should take some
time to remember
how the Lord saved us

We ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.
— Titus 3:3-5

I was so touched by these verses as I considered them the other day.

The apostle is not speaking here of how Christ appeared on the earth to die for our sins. Rather, he first reminds us of our terrible condition before we met the Lord. Then he goes on to speak of the time when God’s kindness and love appeared to you, and at a different time to me, and then to each one of us in a unique way, so that we repented, believed in Christ, and experienced “the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.”

How much He loves each one of us!

“For we will surely die and become like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. Yet God does not take away a life; but He devises means, so that His banished ones are not expelled from Him.”
— 2 Samuel 14:14

Yet, as time goes by we may forget what we were before we believed, or how we were wandering far away from God until that wonderful day when He came to save us.

So, do you want to be revived in the Lord? Then take some time to go off by yourself, as this year draws to a close and a new one begins, to remember before Him the manner in which He saved you, and what He saved you from, and thank and praise Him for making His kindness and love appear to you!
