Will You be
Covered
before God?

5 July 2022

Ultimately, we cannot
hide from God. Our only
hope is to be found
in Christ as our
righteousness

As sinners, we always seek to cover ourselves and hide our sins. The very first sinners, Adam and Eve, attempted to cover themselves with fig leaves, until God made coats of skin for them (Genesis 3:7,21). This means God Himself offered an animal sacrifice on their behalf, as a prefigure of Christ as the Lamb of God being slain for our sins. That is the only covering God will ever really accept from us.

As Jesus was going to the cross, He told the women following Him not to weep for Him, but rather, to “weep for yourselves and for your children,” for a day was coming in which they would consider those women blessed who never bore children. He went on:

Then they will begin “to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us!’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us! ’”
— Luke 23:28-30; cf. Hosea 10:8

The Lord’s word here will be fulfilled when the 6th seal is opened, as spoken of in the book of Revelation. the moon will become like blood and the sky be rolled back as a scroll, and all the mountains and islands will be moved from their place,

…And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”
— Revelation 6:12-17

How very different will the situation be in that day! Then all those who dwell on the face of the earth will finally realize that the Lamb is no longer on the cross; now He is on the throne, and the time for His judgment has come.

And ultimately there will be no place to hide, no covering at all, for the unrepentant sinners who must in the end face God and His judgment directly:

Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened.
— Revelation 20:11-12

But, we don’t need to stand before God on our own! God in Christ as the true Lamb has no desire to judge us; rather, He offered Himself to take away our sins (John 1:29) so that He could be our covering, our very righteousness, before God (1 Cor. 1:30).

Won’t you take Christ as your covering today?

Jesus, I confess that I’m a sinner, and I believe You died on the cross for my sins! So today I take You as my very covering before God to save me from all of my sins and from God”s judgment! Thank You, Lord Jesus! Amen.
