CQD. CQD.
Have struck
an Iceberg!

The Titanic sank
exactly 110 years
ago today

One of the first distress signals was sent out at 12:25 a.m., shortly after the collision, which happened about 400 miles off the coast of Newfoundland. The message read:

CQD CQD CQD CQD CQD CQD. Have struck an iceberg. We are badly damaged. Titanic. Position 41° 44 minutes north 50° 20 minutes west.

(“QCD” was the common international distress call at the time, later replaced by the now-famous “SOS.”)

But nothing could save the great ship; it finally disappeared beneath the sea at 2:20 a.m., with an immense loss of life, just 2 hours and 40 minutes after it hit the iceberg.

The anniversary of this immense tragedy should remind us that the world, also, is headed to its certain doom, and so we must find the gospel of Jesus Christ as the “lifeboat” of our salvation; there is no time to lose.
